Dr. Chinyere Nwafor-Okoli is Alberta Health Services (AHS)’s Provincial Trauma Epidemiologist. The Office is accountable for providing expert epidemiological advice, support and research initiative development in the coordination of province-wide collection and analysis of trauma data for the Alberta Trauma Registry. It does this through a broad framework of collaboration with stakeholders and external partners including Alberta Health, Injury Prevention and Control Centers, University of Alberta and University of Calgary; and with the trauma data analysts, is responsible for the reporting of trauma data to the Trauma Quality Improvement Program of the American College of Surgeons.
Before joining AHS, Dr. Nwafor-Okoli was a Research Associate for the One Health Consortium at the University of Calgary. She served previously as Postdoctoral Research associate at the Mount Royal University Department of Mathematics and Computing, Faculty of Science. Dr. Nwafor-Okoli completed a postdoctoral fellowship in One Health surveillance epidemiology at the Ecosystem and Public Health Department of University of Calgary. She earned a doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nigeria, a doctorate in Global Health and Epidemiology at the Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan, and she serves as a sub-regional coordinator for the One Health One Planet Education initiatives of the global One Health Consortium.

Chichi is Passionate about the CBSN. She has participated in Beyond Borders initiatives and has recently Co-Chaired and facilitated the leadership workshop during the 2023 BESTEMM conference.
