CBSN x SCWIST Youth Volunteers as STEM Leaders 2027


The Canadian Black Scientists Network (CBSN), in partnership with SCWIST, invites youth aged 18–30 to apply for the Youth Volunteers as STEM Leaders, Community Change Champions and Policy Advocates initiative.

This national program supports emerging STEM leaders through structured leadership training, national engagement at the Youth Summit & STEM Expo, and 120 hours of applied community impact. Selected participants will strengthen their leadership capacity, expand their professional networks, and contribute meaningfully to STEM engagement across Canada.

Applications are open through a two-stage process beginning with an Expression of Interest (deadline: July 10).

CBSN x Mitacs Business Strategy Internship Pilot (CBSN Members ONLY)

Applications are now open for the CBSN x Mitacs Business Strategy Internship Pilot, a funded opportunity connecting CBSN trainees with curated internship placements at Canadian partner organizations through the Mitacs Business Strategy Internship program.

Projects in this stream are aligned with areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, life sciences, engineering, and mathematics, and are intended for trainees interested in gaining applied experience in professional and innovation focused environments.

Selected participants may receive a minimum $10,000 stipend. Please note that this opportunity is governed by strict eligibility criteria, so applicants are strongly encouraged to review the full program information carefully before applying.

Marine Science & Environmental Research Pathways for Black Students

CBSN is supporting the development of marine science and environmental research opportunities for Black students interested in aquatic ecosystems, conservation, and applied science.

This initiative aims to provide early exposure to scientific work in the marine space while strengthening pathways into longer-term careers in environmental and public-sector science.

Lab2Market Discover - Research Entrepreneurship

Lab2Market Discover is a 10-week, virtual national program that helps graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and recent graduates explore entrepreneurship as a potential pathway for their research. Through guided training, mentorship, and peer learning, participants assess the real-world impact and market potential of research-based ideas.

The program is delivered by Lab2Market in collaboration with the Canadian Black Scientists Network (CBSN). CBSN members applying to the program should be sure to select the CBSN cohort from the cohort dropdown menu during registration.

Youth STEM Leadership & Professional Development Experience 2026

CBSN will soon be opening applications for a youth STEM leadership experience, supporting participation in a national youth summit focused on science, technology, leadership, and civic engagement.

Selected youth will take part in hands-on STEM activities, leadership development sessions, and professional growth opportunities, including exposure to governance and structured training programs. The experience is scheduled for early 2026 and will be hosted in Toronto.

Black Student Summer Research Internships in Cancer Immunotherapy

The Canadian Black Scientists Network (CBSN) is launching a new summer research internship opportunity for Black students interested in cancer immunotherapy and biotherapeutics research.

This initiative is designed to expand equitable access to cutting-edge biomedical research while fostering culturally safe, inclusive, and well-supported research environments. The initial pilot will support a small cohort of students, with plans for future growth through expanded collaboration.
