Black STEMM Newcomers: Building pathways or squandering talent?

February 2, 2023 @ 6:30 pm

Panel about Black STEMM Newcomers

This panel examines the employment challenges experienced by skilled newcomers to Canada, particularly in STEMM, with a focus on Black women and other women of colour. Underemployment relative to expertise is common, with newcomers struggling to overcome biases related to ‘Canadian experience’ and stereotypes related to identity. What types of changes are needed in terms of organizational hiring, professional development practices or government policies to change the current landscape? Join us for this important conversation.

Panel introduction: Ingrid Um Nlend, MSc
