STEMM Outreach & Pathways
The standing committee works to develop and maintain outreach & pathway partnerships, and arrange student mentorship connections.
Time commitment: Moderate, variable commitments possible according to role and availability
The 2024 Science fair will be hybrid with regional and national components. This committee will organize the fair, coordinating activities at in-person nodes. Join this working group to ensure its success!
Time Commitment: Moderate to High, approximately 6 month commitment
Scientific Programs
The Scientific Program Committee oversees and organizes:
- the Seminar Series (register)
- Career Chats (learn more & submit ideas; register)
- Career Panels
- the BE-STEMM Conference scientific program
Time commitment: moderate, depending on event schedule and availability
The BE-STEMM 2024 conference will be held in May 2024 in hybrid format with in-person components hosted in multiple regions across Canada.
A wide variety of roles are available. Join this working group to ensure another successful year for BE-STEMM!
Time commitment: Moderate to High, variable according to availability and role, 1 to 6 months.
External Relations & Advancement
This standing committee connects CBSN to supporters who are aligned with our vision of advancing Black inclusion in STEMM. Another aspect of the committee's work is ensuring the needs of our members are shared with politicians and policy-makers.
Responsibilities include:
- grant-writing
- sponsor and donor relations
- advocacy & consultation with government agencies & parliamentarians
- conference ambassadors program
This might be a good choice for you if you have experience or expertise in writing or adjudicating grant applications and soliciting sponsorships, or government relations (or if you would like to learn those skills).
Time commitment: Moderate, usually cyclical, varies with role and capacity
