SUMMARY:CBSN Seminar: Examining the Collection and Use of Race-Based Data
DESCRIPTION:Join us as MD-PhD student Yasmine Elmi highlights  some of the central questions in debates on race-based health data: What is race-based data meant to do? Under what conditions can it support health equity\, and when might it reproduce harm? What responsibilities come with collecting and using these data? \nGrounded in two Lancet commentaries\, Yasmine will examine how racial categories are socially constructed\, how race-based data have historically been used both to document inequities and to reinforce harm\, and why accountability\, community governance\, and data sovereignty are necessary for ethical data practices. \nIf you’re fascinated by the ways data can reveal inequities and drive more equitable health outcomes\, this will be an hour well spent! \n  \n📅 Date: March 18 \n⏰ Time: 4:00 – 5:00 PM (ET) \n📍 Location: Zoom. You will receive Zoom info after registering here.
