SUMMARY:CBSN Career Chats: Planning a Pathway to Leadership
DESCRIPTION:CBSN Members are invited to join this first Career Chat of 2024 \nWednesday January 10\, 4pm ET \nTopic: Planning a Pathway to Leadership\nwith Professor Maydianne Andrade\, PhD\, FRCGS\nMany people in STEMM describe how they ‘ended up’ in leadership roles despite not having any training to prepare them to be a good leader. However\, deconstructing the career paths of successful leaders often reveals commonalities in the acquisition of skills and knowledge that reflect the literature on leadership development across sectors (business\, academia\, government). Join Professor Maydianne Andrade for an overview of ways to think about paving your own path to leadership\, including a broad consideration of acquiring and demonstrating leadership competencies\, tips on the ‘nitty gritty’ of the day-to-day approaches of an effective leader\, and the realities of Leading While Black (where the challenges are made abundantly clear by the recent treatment of former Harvard president Claudine Gay). \nLeadership takes many different forms and manifests at different scales\, so everyone can benefit from understanding the ‘unwritten rules’ for success. Whether you know you are interested in leadership\, or whether you would just like to keep your options open\, fee free to join this conversation! \nWant to prepare for this session?  Consider downloading and completing this leadership self-assessment for your own personal consideration. \nThis questionnaire asks you to rate yourself on 20 different questions on a scale of 1 to 5 and provides some insight into your interests\, strengths and areas for improvement if you are interested in a leadership role. \n  \nPlease contact the CBSN Project Administrator if you are a member looking for the registration link\, or sign into the CBSN ‘connections’ channel on Slack  \nRegister once and we will remind you each month. \nWatch the calendar for future session topic announcements! \n\nSeptember 13.
