DESCRIPTION:Join Prof. Jennifer D Adams (University of Calgary) as she welcomes you to the final day of BE-STEMM 2023  and provides an introduction to the leadership summit.  The BE-STEMM Beyond Borders Initiative fosters cross-border collaborations and sharing of promising practices for addressing racial equity in STEMM. \nKeynote: Dr. Gilda Barabino (President\, American Association for the Advancement of Science) is the second president of Olin College of Engineering. She is leading the college into its next chapter as it continues its mission to transform engineering education around the world. Prior to becoming president of Olin College\, Dr. Barabino held academic and administrative appointments at the City College of New York\, Georgia Institute of Technology\, Emory University\, and Northeastern University. Working group members will facilitate dialogues with panelists about ways to foster racial equity in the following key sectors: Leadership\, Policy\, Post-secondary education\, and K-University Pathways. The working groups are charged with (1) comparing and contrasting policy environments in the US and Canada\, (2) conducting a scoping literature review of their area or theme\, (3) elucidating what data and information are required\, but not available in Canada\, (4) synthesizing promising practices and policy recommendations\, and (5) considering a timeline and milestones for achieving equity. \nThe morning sessions for the BE-STEMM leadership summit will include panel discussions based on each topic.
